Industrial Mezzanines Birmingham
If you are looking for an industrial mezzanine in Birmingham we’ve got you covered—custom warehouse mezzanines to fit your exact space. Warehouse mezzanine systems take advantage of vertical space that is not being utilized. If your ceiling heights allow for it, why not expand up versus out with a warehouse mezzanine?
Industrial mezzanines are used in many different applications but some common ones are store rooms, distribution centers, parts departments, manufacturing facilities, and more. They are often used to put shelving, racks, equipment, or offices on the mezzanine level. These work platforms are modular so when they can be installed with minimum downtime to your facility.
Designing Your Steel Mezzanine
Here are some things you need to consider when during the design of your mezzanine:
- Do you have the overhead space for people to walk comfortably on the top level?
- Make sure your mezzanine or work platform will not be infringing on any local fire codes.
- Make sure your concrete is capable of supporting the load produced by the mezzanine columns. The load will depend on how much weight you are storing on the mezzanine, if the weight is dynamic (moved with a pallet jack for example), and the span of the columns. The longer the spans, the greater the load.
- Make sure you have adequate means to get material to the second or third level. This would include forklift gates, forklifts, or conveyors.
Multi-Level Warehouse Mezzanines Birmingham
Mezzanines can also be multiple levels tall. If your ceiling height allows, custom mezzanines can be designed to be 3 levels tall. This can greatly increase the storage capacity of your facility without having to expand. A mezzanine system does not tie into your existing facility, rather it is completely self-supporting. The only modifications to your existing facility will be anchoring it into the ground.

Types of Warehouse Mezzanines
Free-Standing Mezzanines
Free-standing mezzanines offer you the most flexibility in your design. You have full freedom to re-arrange whatever storage you have below and above the structure. If you need flexibility to change layouts in the future, a free-standing mezzanine is the way to go.
Pallet Rack Supported Mezzanines
If you want to put a second level above some pallet racking, why not use the racking to support the second level floor? You obviously need to make sure the pallet rack is capable of supporting the load that will be on the mezzanine, but this can be a great way to save money and you also save space by not having mezzanine columns dropped into your floor plan.
Shelving Supported Mezzanines
Shelving-supported mezzanines are great for a smaller parts inventory. They can be done in a “catwalk” style or a “full deck over” style. A catwalk style will be slightly more cost-effective but will limit your layout flexibility of the second level in the future. These are commonly seen in parts departments integrated with drawer storage, wide-span shelving, battery racks, and more.
